Tinashe Jorgensen Kachingwe, known professionally as Tinashe, is an American singer, songwriter, dancer, and actress. She was born on February 6, 1993, in Lexington, Kentucky, and was raised in Los Angeles, California. Tinashe’s parents were both involved in the entertainment industry, with her father being a professor of acting and her mother working as a physical therapist and dancer. Growing up, Tinashe began dancing at the age of four and went on to study ballet, tap, and jazz. She later attended the Crescenta Valley High School in La Crescenta, California, where she was a member of the school’s girls’ basketball team.

Tinashe began her music career as a member of the girl group The Stunners, which was formed in 2007. The group disbanded in 2011, and Tinashe decided to pursue a solo career.
